Stockholm serves as home base for Swedish ensemble Dina Ögon, whose nostalgic sonic approach blends Tropicalia with sunshine pop, psychedelia, and soul to form an appealing yet refined mixture. International attention arrived via their self-titled debut in 2021, which was succeeded in 2023 by the widely praised Oas; Orion followed twelve months afterward.

The project originated through the partnership of singer/songwriter Anna Ahnlund and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Ögren, each already a seasoned participant in Stockholm’s thriving indie pop milieu. Referencing an expansive range of touchstones that includes Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, hip-hop duo Eric B & Rakim, and Swedish pop hero Ted Gärdestad, the newly formed Dina Ögon—whose name means “Your Eyes” in English—delivered its first album in 2021. The record spotlighted Ahnlund’s airy vocals and rich melodies, all performed in Swedish, over a foundation of jazzy, graceful pop that evoked extended drives beneath the midnight sun.

To ready their second release, Ahnlund and Ögren enlisted bassist Love Örsan and drummer Christopher Cantillo, expanding the lineup to a quartet. After nearly a year spent writing and rehearsing, the band tracked every song for the forthcoming album in a single day at Andreas Tengblad’s Studio Gagarin before finishing production at their own facility. Issued in 2023, Oas offered a streamlined rendering of the group’s essential sound, marked by a buoyant, funky pulse and refined, soulful arrangements.

Proceeding rapidly, Dina Ögon prepared Orion for release in February 2024. Its lavish production values and meticulous arrangements retained numerous characteristics of the preceding album.
