Biography
Disco Four ranked among rap’s pioneering old-school acts specializing in high-energy party tracks, cutting enduring Enjoy releases such as “Move With the Groove” and “Do It, Do It” in the opening years of the 1980s. The Harlem-based ensemble coalesced around core participants Ronnie D, DJ Al Bee, Greg G, Mr. Troy, Country, Kool Gee, and DJ Al Bee. Familial ties to Bobby Robinson—one member being his son—secured their entry to the Enjoy roster, then the leading hip-hop imprint, although lineage played no role in the quality of their 1980 debut single “Move With the Groove.” That sleek, briskly paced party number preceded the 1981 follow-up “Do It, Do It” and the 1982 release “Country Rock and Rap.” Also in 1982 the group delivered the additional club cut “We’re at the Party” on the fledgling Profile label. Beyond those efforts, Disco Four issued only a 1986 Danya single titled “Get Busy” and a Profile holiday recording the subsequent year.
