British post-punk outfit Do Nothing crafts a sound defined by calculated shifts in dynamics, where refined instrumental textures meet twitchy, intricate rhythms and the free-associative, dreamlike delivery of frontman and primary songwriter Chris Bailey. Their earliest recordings, the 2018 singles “Handshakes” and “Waitress,” showcased a raw, geometric approach, whereas the 2020 EP Zero Dollar Bill introduced greater sheen to both guitars and vocals without softening the underlying tension. That sense of refinement deepened on the band’s debut full-length, Snake Sideways, issued in 2023, which incorporated subtle jazz inflections while retaining moments of abrasive intensity.

The group traces its origins to Field Studies, a Nottingham collective that formed in 2012 and issued two EPs before reconfiguring its style and adopting the name Do Nothing in October 2016. The lineup features vocalist Chris Bailey alongside guitarist Kasper Sandstrøm, bassist Charlie Howarth, and drummer Andy Harrison. Their first digital release, “Handshakes,” arrived on February 11, 2018, followed twelve days later by “Waitress.” Regular touring and coverage in outlets such as NME marked 2019, after which the January 2020 single “Gangs” preceded the April 2020 arrival of the five-track EP Zero Dollar Bill. That set, containing “Lebron James” and “Comedy Gold,” appeared on the band’s own Exact Truth imprint through distribution via The Orchard.

Pandemic restrictions in 2020 halted live activity and in-person rehearsals, leaving Bailey to contend with creative stagnation and uncertainty about the group’s future. Those pressures gradually shaped his songwriting, channeling themes of personal shortcomings and endurance into new material. The initial results surfaced on the 2021 EP Glueland, while Snake Sideways followed in June 2023, accompanied by an extensive run of dates across the United Kingdom and Europe.
