Hailing from Dublin, the post-punk outfit the Murder Capital probe society's underbelly by channeling ominous rumblings alongside the redemptive force of the genre itself. Although the five musicians hail from scattered regions throughout Ireland, they first connected as students at BIMM Music college in Dublin before assembling the lineup of vocalist James McGovern alongside Damien Tuit on guitar, Diarmuid Brennan on drums, Cathal Roper on guitar, and Gabriel Paschal Blake on bass. Their inaugural release arrived in 2018 with the single "More or Less," issued as a music video that rapidly gained traction across the internet. Capitalizing on the sudden attention, the group promptly turned to recording their first full-length effort, When I Have Fears, which surfaced in 2019. Mark Ellis, known professionally as Flood, handled production duties on the album, whose core theme revolves around the suicide of a close friend. Approaching the task of crafting a successor, the musicians recognized the necessity of artistic growth. An initial version took shape over eight months yet struck the band as excessively bleak, prompting a relocation to London for an additional six months of work that yielded Gigi's Recovery in 2022 and allowed the material to encompass a wider emotional spectrum.
