Biography
Originating in North London, Sorry arose from the partnership of two longtime companions whose early experiments took shape as scattered home recordings compiled in mixtape fashion. Their debut full-length, 925, channeled an unpredictable blend drawing on trip-hop, ’90s alternative rock, and early trap, while the harder-hitting sophomore effort Anywhere But Here appeared in October 2022 under the guidance of Adrian Utley.
Childhood friends Asha Lorenz and Louis O’Bryen, both vocalist/songwriter/multi-instrumentalists, began collaborating in their teens across guitar-driven rock and beatmaking. They later assembled a complete lineup by adding drummer Lincoln Barrett and bassist Campbell Baum; the quartet initially performed as Fish until another act issued legal threats, prompting the switch to Sorry. In 2017 the group issued the stylistically diverse Home Demo/ns, Vol. 1 and established a stronger presence within London’s club circuit. Their eclectic approach soon attracted Domino Records, which released the “Wished/Lies” 7” that year, followed in 2018 by “2 Down 2 Dance” and “Showgirl.” A second installment of the Home Demo/ns series also surfaced in 2018 while the band supported higher-profile acts on tour.
Early 2020 brought the arrival of 925, co-produced by Gorillaz associate James Dring and featuring the addition of electronics player Marco Pina as the fifth member; the album reached number 13 on the U.K. indie chart. Pandemic restrictions halted their planned headline dates, yet the group documented a 2021 performance as the live album A Night at the Windmill, directing proceeds to Brixton’s Windmill venue. The Twixtustwain EP followed the same year, bridging the period before the next studio release. Recorded in Bristol with Portishead’s Adrian Utley, Anywhere But Here marked their second album.
