Biography
Drawing from the likes of Sonic Youth, Deerhunter, and My Bloody Valentine, Ulrika Spacek from England craft atmospheric sonic textures through a potent three-guitar assault. The group came together in 2014 with guitarist Rhys Williams, drummer Callum Brown, guitarist/keyboardist Joseph Stone, bassist Ben White, and singer/guitarist Rhys Edwards—Joseph Stone, Ben White, and Rhys Edwards having earlier played in the U.K. rock band Tripwires. They played their first show in London during May 2015. Captured at the band’s own KEN studio/HQ in East London, The Album Paranoia surfaced in 2016 via Tough Love Records. Their second full-length, Modern English Decoration, followed in 2017, and the Suggestive Listening EP arrived the year after that. In 2019 the collective forfeited its KEN studio space, while internal frictions intensified before the arrival of their third album. Compact Trauma, issued in 2023, incorporated psych, noise, and Krautrock textures into the group’s palette and featured Edwards, Brown, Stone, bassist Syd Kemp, and guitarist Adam Beach.
