Biography
Blending viola, trumpet, and saxophone with unconventional additions like the hippo tube and foghorn produced the Dog Faced Hermans’ thunderous post-punk aesthetic. Although the band dissolved in 1995, its former members have stayed musically engaged. Bass guitarist and steel-drum player Colin McLean collaborated with Pere Ubu vocalist David Thomas before taking up a permanent role as sound engineer for the Ex. Guitar, hippo-tube, and viola player Andy Ex later joined forces with the Ex, Kletka Red, Little Red Spiders, and the Magpie Dance Company. Nigerian-born vocalist and trumpet/bells player Marion Coutts moved to London, where she recorded briefly with Spaceheads and now works as a sculptor and lecturer. Besides drumming for Rhythm Activism, Wilf Plum has served as a DJ in Amsterdam and fronted his own outfit, Johnny Distance & the Web Riders.
