Biography
Nomeansno emerged as an eccentric punk outfit based in Victoria, British Columbia, built around the Wright brothers, with Rob covering bass, guitar, and vocals while John handled vocals, drums, and keyboards. Guitarist and vocalist Andy Kerr came aboard during the first half of the 1980s and, after his exit in the following decade, was succeeded by Tom Holliston. The band’s sound fuses punk with jazz, funk, and metal accents, foregrounding abrupt and complex rhythmic structures. Their lyrics lean into deliberate eccentricity, yet the group consistently delivers inventive and demanding work. Across numerous releases, among them the tenth studio album All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt in 2006, Nomeansno issued material on Alternative Tentacles, AntAcidAudio, Southern, and their own Wrong Records. The Wright brothers also devoted time to the Hanson Brothers, a side project that functioned as an absurdist Ramones tribute assembled with friends.
