In the 1950s, "Little" Donna Hightower delivered energetic shouting sides for both Decca and RPM that highlighted her commanding vocal presence. Hit records never materialized for her, yet the absence of chart success had nothing to do with any shortfall in technique. Beyond sheer force and vocal range, she proved equally moving when interpreting gentle, heartfelt ballads. Horace Henderson’s orchestra supported her Decca recordings, whereas Maxwell Davis supplied the arrangements for the RPM material.
