Biography
Bay Area-raised vocalist and tunesmith Dora Jar has carved out a reputation for her inventive fusion of folk-rooted, avant-garde-tinged pop. Early notice came via her EPs—Digital Meadow in 2021 and Comfortably in Pain the following year—alongside richly layered tracks such as the 2024 single “Timelapse.”
Though born in New York City, Jar spent her childhood in California’s Bay Area, where her parents exposed her to Broadway standards, operatic works, and jazz classics. During adolescence she enrolled at an East Coast boarding school, taking part in stage musicals and starting to compose her own material. Upon finishing school she relocated to Poland—her father’s ancestral homeland—to live with relatives. While there she began uploading tracks to the internet, eventually attracting the notice of London producer Jared Solomon, who performs as Solomonophonic. The encouragement prompted her to settle in London and refine her style. Her first EP, Digital Meadow, arrived in 2021 and included input from Solomonophonic, the Neighbourhood’s Jesse Rutherford, and additional collaborators; that year she also supported the Neighbourhood on the road.
Jar followed up in 2022 with the EP Comfortably in Pain, again teaming with Solomonophonic. Subsequent live work included support dates for Billie Eilish and her inaugural headlining run across North America. Standalone releases during this period encompassed the 2022 track “Spell,” 2023’s “Puppet,” and “Timelapse” in 2024.
