Biography
After completing his studies at the Royal College of Music, Bainton served as professor of music at the Newcastle upon Tyne Conservatoire and later became director of the New South Wales State Conservatorium. World War I brought internment at Ruhleben, and in 1917 the Carnegie Award recognized his symphony Before Sunrise. Working in late-Romantic harmonies, he produced lyrical scores marked by a pastoral tone.
