Ednardo

Ednardo belonged to the circle of artists that included Fagner, Alceu Valença, Belchior, and Geraldo Azevedo and that brought the foundational sounds of Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro into mainstream Brazilian pop. Across a career that produced twelve albums, several of which appeared in Argentina, Uruguay, Israel, Portugal, and Spain, he also composed scores for film and television. His most successful recording, “Pavão Mysterioso,” drew on the narrative tradition of cordel literature and featured in the surrealistic Globo Network telenovela Saramandaia (1976).

Piano lessons began for him at age ten; twelve years later, still self-taught, he took up the violão. In 1969 he became a member of Pessoal do Ceará alongside Rodger and Teti, and together they issued the 1973 LP Meu Corpo, Minha Embalagem, Todo Gasto Na Viagem. Two years earlier he had relocated to the southeast, where Eliana Pittman recorded his “Beira-Mar” as a single for Odeon. O Romance do Pavão Mysterioso appeared in 1974. January 1975 found him at the Festival Abertura performing “Vaila,” written with Brandão.
