The alternative rock outfit Ednaswap took its name from recurring nightmares experienced by frontwoman Anne Preven. Guitarists Rusty Anderson and Scott Cutler joined bassist Paul Bushnell and drummer Carla Azar to form the Los Angeles group in 1993. An acoustic demo recorded shortly afterward secured them a contract with the East/West label. Their self-titled debut appeared in 1995, yet the band’s relationship with the imprint proved troubled. A year later they resurfaced on Island Independent with the EP Chicken. Wacko Magneto arrived in 1997. Shortly thereafter Natalie Imbruglia achieved widespread success with her version of the Ednaswap song “Torn,” though the hit failed to generate comparable attention for the band’s next full-length release, 1998’s Wonderland Park. The group disbanded in the spring of 1999.
