Edson Cordeiro performs as a technically trained counter-tenor whose repertory spans Brazilian classic samba through Mozart and Verdi, incorporates the Rolling Stones alongside disco and Prince, and extends to Häendel, all framed within pop arrangements. Multiple albums document his work, and European concerts have drawn favorable responses since 1994. Between the ages of six and sixteen he performed regularly at the Baptist church in his hometown while appearing in local amateur theater productions and musicals. He entered the profession in 1988, serving as both actor and vocalist in a Brazilian production of the musical Hair. The following year he traveled as an actor through several European nations, Central American countries, the United States, and Mexico in the play O Doente Imaginário by Molière. His debut solo engagement in Rio during 1990 met with instant acclaim and led directly to a recording offer. The resulting first album appeared on the Sony label in 1992.
