Biography
Norah Jones, the jazzy singer and songwriter, launched El Madmo as a side project whose sound tilts toward indie rock. The trio places Jones on guitar and vocals, with Daru Oda supplying bass and vocals plus Andrew Borger on drums, the latter already a member of Jones’ backing ensemble the Handsome Band.
The group cultivates a theatrical, frequently comic tone in which garishly glam makeup, wigs, and costumes function as standard stage wear. Each participant adopted an alias—Oda as El, Jones as Maddie, Borger as Mo—thereby supplying the band’s name. El Madmo delivered its self-titled debut album via Team Love in 2008.
