ElCamino, a rapper from Buffalo, New York, maintains a firm grip on East Coast hip-hop traditions by favoring boom-bap production and his ongoing links to Griselda Records and Black Soprano Family.

Born in Buffalo, he relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where his earliest recorded work took shape. He later returned to Buffalo and committed more fully to music, performing at first as Meechy Camino alongside the Local Residents crew. Three solo tracks surfaced in 2015: “Doxa,” “The Natural,” and “1996.” The following year brought an introduction to Westside Gunn and an affiliation with Griselda Records. Although the label collective scheduled a major tour for summer 2017, ElCamino remained sidelined by probation and an ankle monitor; he used the interval to compose and lay down tracks for his self-titled debut, released in 2018, at which point he shortened his name by dropping Meechy. Nine further projects appeared across the next two years, among them the notable 2019 release Lott & Abraham.

Activity persisted at a steady clip, producing four full-length albums in 2022 alone, including Let There Be Light and ElCamino 3. In 2023 he issued They Spit on Jesus, his first project under the Black Soprano Family banner, which contained guest spots from Benny the Butcher, Armani Caesar, Inspektah Deck, Havoc, Fuego Base, and Loveboat Luciano.
