Hailing from Los Angeles, Alain Johannes on guitars and vocals, Natasha Shneider handling organ, bass, and vocals, plus drummer Jack Irons launched the band Eleven during 1990. A sequence of three albums issued in the first half of the decade highlighted the group’s unpolished hard-rock approach alongside its reflective songwriting. Irons exited toward the close of 1994 to become part of Pearl Jam, after which the remaining members recruited a replacement drummer and issued a new album in summer 1995. The outfit resurfaced at the start of 2000 via its fifth full-length release, Avantgardedog.
