Els Catarres

Formed in 2010, the acoustic pop-folk trio Els Catarres brought together Èric Vergés on vocals and guitar, Jan Riera Prats on guitar and percussion, and Roser Cruells on double bass. All three hail from the Barcelona region, deliver their material in Catalan, and weave local themes into lyrics marked by humor. What began as a casual pastime among friends shifted when a homemade clip for the song "Jenifer" turned into a YouTube phenomenon in summer 2011, surpassing one million views. Overwhelmed by concert inquiries, Els Catarres swiftly adjusted to professional status yet refused to relinquish their independent stance. Their debut album, Cançons 2011, appeared in late 2011. Before that release, the group had already posted every song for free on its website.
