Biography
Born in Vich (Barcelona) in 1957, Quimi Portet performs as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Early involvement with several local groups, especially Los Rápidos and Los Burros, preceded his rise to prominence as half of El Último de la Fila. That duo, formed with Manolo García, emerged as the most critically and commercially successful Spanish pop act of the 1980s. While the partnership was still active, Portet issued his debut solo effort, the 1987 album Persones Estranyes. Only after the pair disbanded in 1997 did he devote himself fully to solo work. Seven further albums had appeared by 2012, each marked by his characteristic humor and taste for surrealist lyrics. He has also earned recognition as a Catalan producer.
