La Unión, a Spanish pop/rock band, entered the domestic music circuit in the opening years of the 1980s. Its original lineup consisted of singer Rafael Sánchez, bass player Luis Bolín, guitarist Mario Martínez, and keyboardist Iñigo Zabala. Chart success arrived in 1984 with the single “Lobo Hombre en Paris,” the same year the group released the album Mil Siluetas, produced by Mecano’s Nacho Cano; El Maldito Viento followed in 1985. Three years afterward the band self-produced Vivir Al Este del Eden. Around that period Iñigo Zabala exited, leaving La Unión as a three-piece. Eager to explore new sonic directions, the remaining members relocated to England to record Tentación with producer Mike Howlett. On October 19, 1991, in La Coruña they captured the live album Tren de Largo Recorrido, which gathered their most notable songs. Seeking another experimental setting, the band traveled to the United States to make Psycofunkster Au Lait, produced by Stephan Galfas and released in 1993. Recording continued, culminating in the 2010 album Big Bang. Guitarist Mario Martínez succumbed to laryngeal cancer on April 10, 2022, at the age of 60.
