Olvido Gara, better known by her stage name Alaska, launched the music project Kaka de Luxe in 1978 together with Nacho Canut and Carlos Berlanga. This group formed part of the Spanish new wave scene called Movida Madrileña. Once Ana Curra and Eduardo Benavente came aboard, the outfit was renamed Alaska y los Pegamoides and issued its debut single “Horror En El Hipermercado” in 1980, with “Otra Dimensión” appearing the following year. Upon the release of Alaska y los Pegamoides’ first album, the track “Bailando” rose on the charts and helped establish the act on an international level. After Alaska y Los Pegamoides appeared in 1982, Curra and Benavente departed to form Paralisis Permanente, prompting yet another name change. The resulting trio, Alaska y Dinarama, entered the scene in 1983 via the album Canciones Profanas, which was succeeded by 1994’s Deseo. Moving deeper into the decade, Alaska y Dinarama rounded out its catalog with No Es Pecado in 1986 and Diez in 1988.
