Biography
Elwood emerged as the eclectic hip-hop/pop endeavor fronted by singer, songwriter and producer Prince Elwood Strickland III alongside co-producer and songwriter Brian Boland. Strickland, who spent his early years in North Carolina, absorbed rap, soul, country, folk and pop before taking a position as recording engineer at Soho's Greene Street Recording Facility. Over the course of a decade at the studio he collaborated with Tricky, Mos Def, De La Soul, the The and Adam Yauch, and it was there that he first connected with Boland. The pair cut a seven-song demo at Strickland's personal studio, securing a release through the Palm Pictures imprint, after which Elwood enlisted acclaimed British producer Steve Lillywhite to shape material for the debut album The Parlance Of Our Times. The set appeared in early 2000 as a joint effort between Palm Pictures and Lillywhite's own Gobstopper label.
