Enrique Morente

Enrique Morente, previously the frontman of La Barberia del Sur and Sabicas, established new directions in contemporary flamenco innovation through his solo work and showed a particular draw toward verses from both recent and longstanding poets. In partnership with Lagartija Nick he issued the album Cantando a Federico García Lorca y Leonard Cohen, blending flamenco textures with lines by the Spanish poet Lorca and the Canadian poet Cohen. His performances were at times supported by various Andalucian orchestras from Morocco. After an ulcer operation the singer slipped into a coma and died at age 67 in December 2010.
