Remedios Amaya

Born María Dolores Amaya Vega, Gypsy singer Remedios Amaya first appeared on record with a self-titled album in 1978. Although the Spanish performer is still associated with her unsuccessful Eurovisión appearance at Munich, Germany, in 1983 performing "La Cantora del Siglo XX" (The Flamenco Singer of the 20th century), she resurfaced in 1998 via the top-selling Me Voy Contigo, an album that incorporated flamenco, tango, Spanish rumba, and further traditional rhythms.
