Estela Raval

Latin jazz singer Estela Raval, born Palma Nicolina Ravallo, wed trumpet player Ricardo Romero in 1954. Their side project Los Cinco Latinos staged its first live performance on May 22, 1957. After attaining top-selling status two years later, the ensemble of skilled Latin musicians began touring throughout Latin America and shared stages with the Platters. In 1964 the group delivered its classic “Balada de la Trompeta” on the Ed Sullivan Show, exposing the performance to millions of television viewers across the U.S. Estela Raval’s decision to launch a solo career in the late ’60s led to the ensemble’s breakup on February 22, 1970. The original members reunited in 1982 as Estela Raval y Los 5 Latinos and resumed worldwide touring.
