Biography
Etienne Jaumet, the French producer and multi-instrumentalist who makes up half of Zombie Zombie, also follows a distinctly exploratory solo path. On his EPs and albums issued through Versatile Records he chases personal creative impulses, whether shaping eerie techno on Night Music in 2010 or converting jazz standards into expansive cosmic-electronic pieces on 2018’s 8 Regards Obliques.
He trained in saxophone and sound engineering at the Conservatoire in Paris and, throughout the 2000s, began working alongside several artists who shared his outlook. Jaumet contributed to the Married Monk’s 2004 album The Belgian Kick and collaborated with percussionist Francisco "Flóp" López. With drummer Cosmic Neman he founded Zombie Zombie, releasing the duo’s self-titled EP on Boomboomtchak Records in 2006. The pair then joined Versatile Records, issuing the 12" single Driving This Road Until Death Sets You Free in 2007 before delivering the full-length A Land for Renegades the following year.
Also on Versatile Records, Jaumet launched his solo career in 2007 with the 12" Repeat Again After Me, which carried a remix of the title track by Âme. His debut album, the Carl Craig-produced Night Music, appeared in 2009 and generated that year’s Entropy EP. He resurfaced in 2011 with the tech-house single Satori while maintaining partnerships with artists such as Joakim and Richard Pinhas. After completing additional Zombie Zombie projects—including the John Carpenter tribute soundtrack Loubia Hamra and the second album Rituels d'un Nouveau Monde—Jaumet resumed solo activity. The single Metallik Cages surfaced in late 2014, previewing the February 2015 release of the more dance-oriented La Visite.
Following two further Zombie Zombie outings—the 2016 Slow Futur EP and the next year’s full-length Livity—Jaumet issued 2018’s 8 Regards Obliques, reworking classic jazz compositions by Sun Ra, Miles Davis, and others into atmospheric meditations built from synth and saxophone.
