French ensemble Zombie Zombie originated in Paris during 2006 as a duo featuring Étienne Jaumet on vintage synthesizers, Theremin, and saxophone alongside drummer Cosmic Neman, formerly of Herman Düne and responsible for tapes and effects. Jérôme Lorichon, performing under the name Doctor Lori Schönberg and adding drums as well as trumpet, later expanded the group. Their sound fuses propulsive analog synth textures rooted in Krautrock, horror soundtracks, and house while also incorporating dub and space-age jazz. Praise has arrived from Iggy Pop and from primary influence John Carpenter, both of whom the group has covered.

The debut EP Zombie-Zombie surfaced that year on Boomboomtchak Records and contained a version of The Normal’s “Warm Leatherette.” After signing with Versatile Records, they delivered the 2007 single “Driving This Road Until Death Sets You Free.” First album A Land for Renegades followed in 2008 and included a cover of Iggy Pop’s “Nightclubbing.” Later that year the Dog Walker EP appeared, and 2010 brought the EP Zombie Zombie Plays John Carpenter. Their 2011 single “Nothing to Say” was backed by a cover of Suicide’s “Dream Baby Dream.”

Second album Rituels D’Un Nouveau Monde arrived in 2012; its single treatment of Sun Ra’s “Rocket Number 9” was later sampled by Lady Gaga on “Venus.” First film score Loubia Hamra emerged in 2014. Both Slow Futur and the Irreprochable soundtrack appeared in 2016, while the dub-influenced Livity followed in 2017. The L’Heure De La Sortie soundtrack was issued by L’Age D’Or in 2018. Zombie Zombie returned in 2022 with Vae Vobis, their first album for Born Bad Records.
