Evandro Mesquita, a founding member of Blitz, failed to achieve commercial traction during his initial solo efforts yet sustained activity in television and film both as an actor and scriptwriter while also taking on duties as a recording producer. Since the 1970s he had belonged to the theatrical ensemble Asdrúbal Trouxe o Trombone. In 1980 he supplied the nucleus for the group that soon became Blitz alongside Ricardo Barreto and Lobão. Following the March 1986 breakup of that pivotal Brazilian rock act of the 1980s, he launched a solo trajectory aided by a television commercial in which he performed alongside Tina Turner. His debut album, Evandro, slated for an October release, encountered censorship obstacles on the tracks “Greve,” “Sinfonia de Sapo, Balé de Vaga-lume,” and “Acorda Pascoal,” delaying distribution until early 1987. That same year he appeared at the I Alternativa Nativa Festival held at Canecão in Rio together with Lobão, Plebe Rude, Ira!, and Heróis da Resistência. Disappointing sales prompted a shift toward scriptwriting, including work on the TV Globo series Armação Ilimitada. He also took an acting role in the Globo telenovela Top Model and penned the screenplay for the Mauro Farias film Não Quero Falar Sobre Isso Agora. Later recordings comprised Planos Aéreos (1988), Procedimento Normal (1989), and Almanaque Sexual Dos Eletrodomésticos E Outros Animais (1991). The sole chart success of his solo output remained the single “Babilônia Maravilhosa.”
