Biography
Eytan Mirsky, a singer and songwriter based in New York, entered the pop landscape in 1996 via his first record, Songs About Girls (& Other Painful Subjects). His work balances the refined craft of pure pop in the manner of Nick Lowe with the wide-eyed spirit of rock & roll embodied by Jonathan Richman. The tracks prompt both toe-tapping rhythms and persistent humming, earning substantial critical acclaim even as broader recognition and commercial success continue to elude him. Having previously studied at N.Y.U.'s Graduate Institute of Film and Television, Mirsky composed the theme for the independent feature Happiness soon after his debut; R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe delivered the vocal over the end credits. His second album, Get Ready for Eytan!, arrived in 1999 and offered another set of finely wrought pop numbers widely regarded among the strongest releases of its year. He contributed three songs to the well-received film The Tao of Steve, two of them appearing on its soundtrack. A third album is slated for 2001, with additional film-music projects also in progress, positioning Mirsky for wider public attention. Listeners may therefore discover his music while it remains relatively undiscovered.
