Biography
London-based singer/songwriter Fauness made her first appearance in 2018 via the EP Toxic Femininity, an icy and eclectic pop release shaped in tandem with pioneering U.K. dance producer Jam City.
Raised from birth in North London under the name Cora Gilroy Ware, she absorbed a wide-ranging mix of sounds during childhood yet found herself drawn most strongly to pop, R&B, and hip-hop. Residence in the culturally diverse Finsbury Park neighborhood exposed her to an array of traditions that later shaped her approach to songwriting. After linking with Jam City, she issued that debut EP on his Earthly imprint, marking the start of an extended and fruitful partnership. In the two years that followed she put out several singles that tested stylistic limits, moving through scuzzy rock, U.K. electronica, and alternative pop. By 2021 she had signed with the U.S. label Cascine, whose roster already included Half Waif, Chad Valley, and Yumi Zouma, and issued her first release for the company, Maiden No More, shortly afterward.
