Biography
In 1992, Stefano Marelli on guitar and Fabio Zuffanti on bass launched the band Finisterre in Italy after earlier collaborations in Calce and Compasso. The ensemble took its title from the Latin expression denoting “finite land,” signaling an ambition to dissolve established creative and musical limits. Keyboardist Boris Valle and flutist Sergio Grazia joined the lineup, and the musicians set out on an expansive progressive-rock and symphonic venture. Their debut album appeared in 1995, followed the next year by In Limine. That same year Zuffanti issued the album Hostsonaten under the Finisterre Project banner, essentially a solo effort that he later revisited with a second release under the Hostsonaten name. Drummer Andre Orlando came aboard by 1997, and two years afterward the group delivered In Ogni Luogo. Personnel shifted markedly in 2000 with the arrival of Agostino Macor on keyboards, Raffaella Callea handling vocals and flute, and violinist Sergio Caputo, expanding the ensemble to six members; the following year the earlier recording Live at the Progday 1997 was reissued under the title Storybook.
