Biography
The ensemble first took shape as a trio featuring Boero, Mazzoglio, and Gardino, whose sound carried traces of Emerson, Lake & Palmer yet remained rooted in classical traditions. Vevey and Gaviglio later entered the lineup, after which the musicians devoted two years to live performances and the creation of material intended for a full album. With the project nearly finished, Basso was asked to handle vocals. A demo tape was cut and circulated among several labels, but the companies declined to issue the recordings because progressive rock had lost commercial momentum by the start of 1977.
Niko Papathanassiou, the Greek producer and brother of Vangelis, listened to the compositions and arranged an introduction to Polydor. In 1977 the group tracked Forse le Lucciole Nonsi Amino Piú across three weeks; the resulting LP met with positive response. The next year the band issued both a CD and a mini-LP that departed from progressive territory, leading to its breakup. In 1980 the musicians reassembled under the name Locanda following the dissolution of Locanda Delle Fate and released another CD.
Forse... reached CD format in Japan in 1988 and in Korea in 1993, each edition containing bonus tracks. Also in 1993 the Italian label Mellow issued a live album drawn from a 1977 concert that included the previously unreleased track “La Giostra.” The progressive-rock community was caught off guard when the band resurfaced in 1999 without Basso on vocals and delivered Homo Homini Lupus.
