In their Italian homeland during the late 1960s and early 1970s, Premiata Forneria Marconi recorded under the name I Quelli. Storia di un Minuto served as the first album issued after the name change. Per un Amico followed soon after and attracted the attention of ELP's Greg Lake, who invited the musicians to London. During the visit they met Pete Sinfield (King Crimson, Roxy Music), who joined the project as lyricist and producer. The partnership produced Photos of Ghosts, essentially an English adaptation of Per un Amico. British journalists' difficulty with the full name prompted the abbreviation PFM. L'isola di Niente became the actual third album, released in England as The World Become the World. Mid-decade saw the live set Cook, retitled Live in U.S.A. for the Italian market. After extensive touring and a brief pause, Chocolate King appeared; unlike earlier releases that existed in both languages, this album was issued only in English. The resulting interest secured a deal with Elektra Asylum Records. Jet Lag arrived in 1977 and marked the final U.S. release before the group returned to Italy to concentrate on domestic work. Passpartù opened their renewed Italian chapter. Association with RCA Records then brought Suonare Suonare, followed by Come Ti Va In Riva Alla Città. Roughly ten years passed before Ulisse emerged in 1997, and Serendipity appeared in 2000.
