Biography
The experimental electronic outfit FM3, made up of veteran rock musician Christiaan Virant and prolific session keyboardist Zhang Jian, came together in Beijing during 1999. Their profile rose after they created the Buddha Machine, a compact battery-powered device equipped with a speaker that cycles through several short drones. By the time they issued Hou Guan Yin on the Lona label in 2006, the group had already placed recordings with Staalplaat, Sublime Frequencies, Mutek, Bip-Hop, and Nascente. Live appearances have included the Louvre, the 2004 Shanghai Bienalle, and Bern's PROGR Zentrum für Kulturproduktion.
