Biography
Originating from West Lothian in Scotland close to Edinburgh, Foil formed as a guitar-pop outfit whose founding members included Hugh Duggie handling vocals and guitar, alongside guitarist Colin McInally, bassist Shug Anderson, and drummer Jim Anderson. Their inaugural performance occurred at the Underworld venue in London during February 1996, leading straight to a contract with 13th Hour and the July issuance of their single "Reviver Gene," though substantial radio exposure only followed with a November 1997 reissue. England saw the launch of their first full-length record, Spread It All Around, in January 1998, with a Scottish release arriving in March of that year; beyond the opening single, the collection featured tracks such as "Don't Come Around" and "Are You Enemy?" Jim Anderson's role on drums has subsequently been taken over by Alan Lindlay. Never Get Hip came out from Foil around the middle of 2000.
