Biography
Foodman serves as the Westernized recording name for Takahide Higuchi, the Japanese experimental electronic producer recognized domestically under the moniker Shokuhin Maturi, or "Food Festival." Yokohama provides the base for his output, which frequently delivers a fragmented reworking of Chicago's juke and footwork style by reshaping its high-energy basslines alongside erratic, high-speed samples. Unpredictable rhythmic patterns and sudden injections of noise mark the tracks, while his reliance on cold, MIDI-style synth tones and intermittent J-pop touches has prompted parallels to vaporwave alongside the PC Music label. After issuing multiple cassettes and digital works across the 2010s, he achieved his first vinyl outing with the acclaimed Ez Minzoku in 2016.
His initial breakthrough occurred in 2012 as tracks spread through the global juke scene, prompting Orange Milk Records to issue his introductory cassette Shokuhin. Additional tapes soon followed on Noumenal Loom, Digitalis, and Patient Sounds Intl., complemented by various online projects such as a split EP alongside SELA. Melting Bot put out Couldwork in 2015, a concise compilation drawing from several of his digital recordings. Orange Milk then handled his first vinyl album, Ez Minzoku, in 2016, which featured a guest vocal from Bo Ningen vocalist Taigen Kawabe. The Pokopoko EP surfaced two years afterward via Container's Plastic Bags imprint. Subsequent releases included the full-length Aru Otoko No Densetsu on Sun Araw's Sun Ark label and the Moriyama EP on Palto Flats. Mad Decent presented ODOODO in 2019.
