Biography
Frank Lenz began drum lessons at the age of eight. Displaying immediate aptitude, he quickly established himself as a session musician. Following stints with multiple indie bands, he shaped his own solo output by blending Burt Bacharach’s pop sensibilities, Steely Dan’s rock approach, jazz fusion elements, and Stevie Wonder-style R&B.
Lenz has stated, “Playing drums is all I ever wanted to do,” and he launched his studio drumming career by age thirteen. Subsequent band affiliations included the Lassie Foundation, Duraluxe, and Charity Empressa. His debut solo album, the full-length The Hot Stuff, consisting entirely of original material, was tracked in three days at the Fabulous Green Room in Huntington Beach, CA; Northern Records issued the R&B-infused pop set in 2001. He opted for self-release on his second album, The Last Temptation of Frank Lenz, in 2002, then partnered with Velvet Blue Music for 2004’s Conquest Slaughter. After recording with Starflyer 59 and touring alongside Pedro the Lion, Lenz completed his next project, 2006’s Vilelenz and Thieves, which appeared on Parasol Records.
