Biography
Formed in 1995 by brothers Allen on guitar and Jay Karpinski on drums, The Six Parts Seven originated in Kent, OH, where their indie rock sound drew from the styles of Brian Eno and John Fahey. In 2000, alongside Tim Gerak handling guitars and samples plus Brad Visker on bass, the group released Silence Magnifies Sound. By 2002 they had grown to a sextet through the addition of Matt Haas on lap steel and high-lonesome guitar along with Steven Clements on grand piano. That March saw the release of Things Shaped in Passing via Suicide Squeeze. Supporting the record, the band spent the following two years on the road. In the midst of those tours they put out a split EP with The Black Keys even as they composed and tracked their next full-length. Fall 2003 brought the arrival of Lost Notes From Forgotten Songs.
