Biography
Red Sparowes emerged in 2003 as a Los Angeles ensemble specializing in an intense, experimental strain of post-rock distinguished by prominent pedal steel guitar. The group incorporates musicians with ties to various acts, including Bryant Clifford Meyer on guitar from Isis, Josh Graham handling guitar and visuals associated with Neurosis, bassist Greg Burns formerly of Halifax Pier, Andy Arahood contributing on bass and guitar from Angel Hair, along with drummer David Clifford out of Pleasure Forever. Upon completing demo recordings for what would become their first full-length, the band embarked on tours alongside the Dillinger Escape Plan and Made Out of Babies. With the exit of founding bassist and guitarist Jeff Caxide, also linked to Isis, and drummer Dana Berkowitz toward the end of 2004, the album At the Soundless Dawn appeared in February 2005 via Neurot Recordings, the label connected to Neurosis. In the spring of that year, Red Sparowes crossed Europe, followed by American dates later in 2005 joined by Pelican, Big Business, and Breather Resist. Their subsequent release, Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun, came out in September 2006.
