Biography
Emerging from Boston, MA, Irepress entered the ranks of early-2000s post-rock, progressive hardcore and metal-gaze acts—whichever label one prefers—by adding an entirely instrumental, rhythmically jazz-inflected layer to the style’s expansive and atmospherically intricate framework already mapped out by Isis, Pelican and Mouth of the Architect. The group’s roster consisted of Jon DiNapoli on guitar, Bret Silverberg on guitar, Sheel Dave on drums and percussion, Shan Dave on bass, and Jarrett Ring on keyboards; after issuing the 2003 EP Trilogy, the musicians delivered their first full-length album, Samus Octology, in 2005. Translation Loss Recordings reissued that album two years afterward, precisely when Irepress were experiencing personnel instability that left the band’s future uncertain.
