Bossk emerged from Ashford, Kent as a U.K. post-metal band whose sound fuses abrasive and delicate guitar textures with expansive atmospheric layers and relentless drumming. The ensemble channels an aggressive blend of post-rock and sludge metal, a style captured most vividly on the 2016 full-length Audio Noir. Vocalist Sam Marsh, drummer Nick Corney, bassist Tom Begley, and guitarists Rob Vaughan and Andrew Waghorn formed the group in 2005. Their first release, the EP titled 1, appeared on QnotQ Records the following year. Extensive touring across the U.K. and Europe placed them alongside Baroness, Yndi Halda, and Cult of Luna. In 2007 the London independent label Eyesofsound issued their second EP, 2, which the band promoted through a U.K. run with Devil Sold His Soul and a European trek alongside Cult of Luna. Vaughan and Corney exited in 2008; after new members joined, Bossk shared stages with the Dutch prog-metal band Textures. By autumn of that year the original lineup had dissolved, closing their initial chapter with a series of farewell concerts and the video EP 3, which contained live material, plus a box set compiling the three EPs. Their last recording before the breakup, a split single with Essex metal band Rinoa, surfaced in summer 2009. Vaughan and Corney subsequently launched Eddie Falco in 2011. The core members reconvened in early 2012, taping a session at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios that preceded several London and South East performances. They devoted the remainder of the year to new compositions, issuing the single “Pick Up Artist” on the American indie label Deathwish Inc. in 2013. A period of reduced activity followed while the musicians refined material for their debut LP, although they continued occasional U.K. and European shows. Deathwish Inc. released Audio Noir in mid-2016, after which Bossk mounted another round of live dates.
