Callisto

Callisto, a Finnish ensemble drawing from the sounds of Neurosis, Breach, Isis, and Zao, integrate themes of faith into their expansive, atmospheric metal compositions. The group's origins trace back to the close bonds shared by its founding quartet—Ariel Björklund on drums, Johannes Nygård handling guitar, Juho Niemelä on bass, and Markus Myllykangas providing vocals. Their initial output arrived with the 2001 single "Dying Desire," followed by the 2003 EP Ordeal of the Century, which initiated ties to the domestic Fullsteam imprint. Fullsteam then put out the group's first album, True Nature Unfolds, during 2004; this effort quickly earned admiration from Cult of Luna's guitarist Johannes Persson. Persson's endorsement led to an introduction with Earache Records, prompting a swift signing. Earache proceeded to reissue True Nature Unfolds, extending the band's reach globally starting in May 2005.
