Biography
In the opening weeks of summer 2014, pop vocalist Ryn Weaver first reached listeners through the intricately assembled single “OctaHate.” Having grown up in the vicinity of Los Angeles, she had earlier relocated to New York in pursuit of acting work, only to return to California with the intention of focusing on music. Uploads to her SoundCloud page soon attracted the attention of Friends Keep Secrets, an Interscope imprint, resulting in a recording deal; her initial recorded appearance came in 2013 as a featured artist on Cashmere Cat’s track “With Me.”
“Weaver issued “OctaHate” at the start of 2014. The release featured co-writing and production contributions from Charli XCX, Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos, Cashmere Cat, and Benny Blanco, whose involvement quickly drove strong early plays on the singer’s SoundCloud profile. That August she issued her first EP, Promises, and turned her attention to preparing a full-length project.
