Biography
Fred Durst, the frontman of Limp Bizkit, entered the world on August 8th, 1970 in Jacksonville, FL and spent his formative years in Gastonia, NC. Upon finishing high school he completed a period of service in the U.S. Navy, then moved back to Jacksonville at the age of 20 with the goal of establishing himself as a tattoo artist. Late in 1994 he joined bassist Sam Rivers to create the rap-metal outfit Limp Bizkit; endorsements from their associates in Korn generated grassroots momentum that secured an opening slot alongside House of Pain and the Deftones, after which an aggressive bidding contest resulted in a recording contract with Flip/Interscope and the release of the debut album Three Dollar Bill Y'All in 1997. A popular reinterpretation of George Michael's "Faith" propelled the set upward on the charts, while the group also joined the first Family Values tour in 1998; that growing attention enabled the follow-up, Significant Other, to enter the Billboard 200 at the top position during the middle of 1999.
