Biography
A Christian-styled Portuguese fado singer, Frei Hermano da Câmara enjoyed peak success in the 1970s across a career that extended over multiple decades. He entered the world as Hermano Vasco Villar Cabral da Câmara on July 12, 1933, in Lisbon, Portugal, and launched his discography in 1959 with the EP Sunset and Sentimental, the opening release in a string of such efforts from his early professional period. Recording output tapered during the 1980s after cresting the prior decade, yet he sustained activity and popularity in the years that followed. Cantar é Rezar from 2006 marked his 50-year anniversary as a performer, while the 2008 best-of set Melhor de Frei Hermano da Câmara entered the Top Ten shortly after its appearance.
