Biography
Formed in 2010, the Finnish indie pop outfit French Films featured vocalist/guitarist Johannes Leppänen, vocalist/guitarist Joni Kähkönen, vocalist/bassist Mikael Jurmu, vocalist/synth player Santtu Vainio, and drummer Antti Inkiläinen. Drawing from classic American pop acts such as the Beach Boys and the Ramones as well as Scottish noise pop bands including the Shop Assistants and the Vaselines, they crafted a distinctive sound of their own. The group started performing locally in Finland and put out their debut EP, Golden Sea, via GAEA Records that same year. After extensive touring across Europe and Asia, they unveiled their debut full-length Imaginary Future toward the end of 2011. Receiving positive reviews from critics, the band kept up their live performances with a notable appearance at the Roskilde Festival in July 2012. In 2013, they followed up with their second GAEA release, White Orchid.
