Fuzeta drew their name from a fishing village in Portugal, yet this fervent indie rock outfit actually formed in France. Three brothers and one close friend since boyhood make up the lineup, which crafts a vigorous strain of indie rock driven by propulsive drumming, intricate guitar textures that blend folk and Americana colors, and vocals charged with raw feeling and delivered entirely in English. That sound was already fully realized by the time the band issued its debut singles, “Y” and “Dive,” in 2015. Momentum built further with the 2016 release of the Pavilhão Chinês EP, a recording that found favor across Europe, and as the musicians refined their stage presence with added precision and professionalism they began reaching listeners in North America through the 2019 single “Wandering Life.”

Dorian Sims and Pierre-Antoine Sims handle guitar and vocals, Charles-Alexandre Sims plays bass, and Jeremy Hervé sits behind the drums. The musicians grew up in Brittany along France’s southern coast, where the Sims brothers and Hervé had been acquainted since childhood. Drawing inspiration from North American indie acts such as Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Cold War Kids, and Volcano Choir, Fuzeta started performing in local venues and, only a month after their first concert, appeared on the bill at the 36th Transmusicales Festival in nearby Rennes, where the response proved strongly positive. In 2015 the group captured the top honor in the Ricard SA Live Music Prize contest, an award that supplied equipment, a slot on a national concert tour, studio time to cut an EP, and distribution for the finished recording. Later that same year Fuzeta issued the two singles “Y” and “Dive,” both of which were included on the six-song Dive EP, also released in 2015. The band then signed with BMG France, which issued the 2016 EP Pavilhão Chinês, titled after one of the Sims brothers’ favorite Portuguese cities. On the 2018 album What We’ve Drawn, Fuzeta moved toward a more expansive and refined production aesthetic while preserving the core of their musical identity. Their visibility in North America increased in March 2019 with the single “Wandering Life,” the opening track from a planned full-length album; a major streaming platform selected the song as a featured recording, signaling that the band’s audience had expanded beyond Europe.
