Thylacine, a French producer and performer, shapes immersive progressive electronic music by weaving acoustic instruments, field recordings, classical melodies, and propulsive electro beats into cohesive works. Numerous releases, among them 2015’s Transsiberian and 2022’s 9 Pieces, function as sonic journeys conceived during and fueled by his far-flung travels.

William Rezé, based in Angers, France, began issuing material as Thylacine in 2012, chiefly on his own Intuitive Records imprint. The debut EP, likewise titled Intuitive, comprised pulsating electro-pop pieces that showcased singer Camille Després. She also contributed to 2014’s Singles and Blend. The latter additionally featured Dylan Nichols (aka Dyllan), who later sang on 2015’s Exil. Thylacine’s first album, Transsiberian, surfaced the same year and traced a rail voyage. Kompakt’s Michael Mayer supplied a remix of the single “Train.”

Rezé subsequently concentrated on soundtrack composition. “Lone” was created for the film De toutes mes forces, and the original motion-picture score for Gaspard va au mariage appeared in 2018. Roads Vol. 1, captured in a converted mobile studio while traveling through Argentina, was issued in early 2019. Its second volume, an EP, followed in 2020. Timeless, released via Sony’s Masterworks division, presented pieces derived from melodies by classical composers including Beethoven, Mozart, and Debussy. Sony/Milan issued Thylacine’s score for the series OVNI(s) in 2021; the album also contained selections by other French electronic artists such as Jean-Michel Jarre and Cerrone. OVNI(s) Saison 2 arrived in early 2022. 9 Pieces, Thylacine’s fourth album and another intercontinental journey, appeared in October.
