Since the early 1990s, Gameface has sustained an active schedule of performances and tours from its Orange County, California base, guided by Jeff Caudill, who performs under the name Jeff Gameface. Beyond serving as the band's primary vocalist and guitarist while crafting its lyrics, Caudill applies his abilities to create cover designs, photography, graphics, layouts, and artwork for dozens of additional acts.

After more than ten years together, Gameface has continued refining the musical approaches that suit the group instead of adopting current trends. The result blends choice aspects of emo, pop, hardcore, and punk, yielding memorable melodies that carry a sincere rock sensibility while preserving the spirited and approachable character of indie music.

Dr. Strange issued the band's self-titled EP in 1995 together with its debut full-length album, Three to Get Ready. Two further albums, Reminder and Good, appeared to strong critical response in 1997, and Dr. Strange also put out the introspective EP Cupcake, which has endured as a fan favorite. By 1999 the band had completed five major U.S. tours plus one European outing and had signed with Revelation Records. Every Last Time followed that same year, then the split release What's up Bro with Errortype: 11 in 2000. Revelation Records also issued Always On in 2000, marking the group's initial venture into straight rock & roll without substantial punk elements. In 2001 Firefly Recordings in England released the five-track EP Feels a Lot Better, which features several tracks from Always On along with renditions of Elvis Costello's "Everyday I Write the Book" and Morrissey's "Sing Your Life," as well as an acoustic piece drawn from Caudill's solo endeavor, the Way Back.

The members favor material that translates directly to the stage, recording only sounds they can replicate in live settings. Guy Julian joined on bass in May 2001, introducing an additional dimension of enjoyment to the band's performances.
