During the vibrant Chicago house resurgence of the 1990s, Spencer Kincy—widely recognized under the Gemini alias—stood out for his innovative approach among local producers. Early singles and EPs came out on hometown imprints Cajual and Relief, after which his work surfaced on an array of international labels such as Planet E, Disko B, Peacefrog, Distance, and NRK. He also helped launch the Guidance label. Recording activity started early in the decade, bringing notice for the spare, minimal character of releases like Imagine a Nation and Hidden Agenda/Tangled Thoughts. Album projects first appeared in 1997 through a pair of nearly simultaneous LPs, In and Out of the Fog and Lights and Imagine-A-Nation. Before the year closed, the third full-length In Neutral arrived, revealing an artist whose output contradicted any sense of stasis. Cyclo released the fourth album, The Music Hall, in 1999. He later stepped away from music, although clusters of reissues emerged across the decades that followed.
